A Blog is the Most Underrated Way to Keep in Touch While Traveling

Traveling is one of the most exciting experiences a person can have. Experiencing a different culture can teach you so much more than you ever expected. Even when you’re traveling to a different country that speaks the same language as you do at home, the different customs present will ensure that you return home with a new understanding of the world.

Keeping in touch with family can be difficult, though, especially if you’re traveling for a long time or dealing with a significant time difference. International phone calls can be really expensive too – and that’s if your phone is even able to make them.

One of the easiest ways to keep in touch with family members is to start a blog. Usually, internet is relatively easy to find, and taking an hour out of sight-seeing to sit in a café and write about your experiences can be both rewarding and relaxing. Reflecting on the best parts of your experience while considering what went wrong is a necessary learning experience, and traveling is stressful enough that you should build in time to decompress.

Your blog can be long and detailed if you want, says Dev Randhawa, or you can share photos with short captions – it’s up to you! A mix of both will help your family follow your adventures without slowing you down too much. Just make sure that your blog has comments enabled, so your family can let you know how jealous they are of your adventures climbing Machu Piccu, skydiving in New Zealand, or eating Italy’s best pizza.
